Happy Halloween!

Well Hope your all feeling halloweeny, because there is a reason I uploaded those 6 gloomy doomy and boomy(?...) albums....Its because tomorrow has something to do with an old pagan tradition of dressing up like the dead to fool the dead into letting you into the afterlife or something similarly gruesomely neat like that.(Think what you want though!!) anyway, I hope you all have fun stealing little kids candy and such. Don't try and hide it, I know some of you have done it before. And while your doing it you can blast freaky music at the same time! joyous days! Just make sure those little tots don't pee on their candy bags, it makes for some unpleasantly bitter sweets.

Boo!

Wolf Eyes - Burned Mind

You just know an album is going to take you all the way across the jelly bean ocean, and over the plains of chocolate coated teddy bears on the back on a magical sea horse named Dorathy who respects you enough to let you ride her, but not enough to engage in an active conversation when it features such warm and fuzzy track names like: Dead in a Boat, Stabbed in the Face, Urine Burn, and Black Vomit.

Shining - V: Halmstad

Actually a good place to start if your new to black metal. Mostly because they have a bit more metal then black if that makes any sense to anyone (they have solo's, catchy passages and such). Shining combine multiple styles and genre's into this album. I love the vocals here, they are pretty unusual for a black metal, and they sound so pissed off. But thats mostly because they're sung in swedish (im assuming), which is pretty close to german, and let me tell you; you could say just about anything in german and sound like your pissed enough to nail your dog to the ceiling.

Meshuggah - Catch 33

Download

I couldn't wait to hear a new album from these guys since I first listened to the EP "I". In my opinion, Catch 33 is Meshuggah's best material to date; Its much more technical and less thrash metal orientated than their first few albums. Which usually would be a bad thing in my book, but its different here because Meshuggah have finally found their own completely unique sound.

Normally I really couldn't care less about technicality, but the musicianship on Catch 33 is jaw dropping. I often found myself wondering just how they produced a guitar tone here, or a bass line there. The drums are pretty amazing, but the guitars are where Meshuggah shines in my eyes. Upon first listen it sounds like they keep ripping out seemingly identical riffs over and over again, but upon closer examination, the riffs seem to be constantly flying all over the place; they sound different almost every time the band spews them out. The entire album is like perfectly contained chaos, never ending, but always changing.

Similar to the "I" EP, This album could be listened to and you'd hardly know that it wasn't one long track.(only difference between the two was that I actually was just one track.)But that being said, its not like they repeat themselves over and over throughout the album, it just sounds very reminiscent of previous tracks. Bringing out memories of just 15 minutes ago when you heard the first couple songs off the record. Catch 33 also has a more laid back aggression to it compared to “I”; which never lets up on pummeling drums and smothering riffs, while 33 is more about a consistent heavy vibe.

The production on Catch 33 is fantastic, In fact I can't see how it could sound any better; The guitars sound much heavier then they did on I, and no longer have the tinny ring that they did on Nothing. They end up sounding like a deeper, clearer, and heavier version of the guitar work on Chaosphere mixed with the varying rhythmic dynamics shown on Nothing .

Meshuggah Discography

Well folks, this is the band that started it all for me. This is the band that transformed me from a useless 12 year old video game dork into a useless 18 year old music dork. And I have Aliens versus Predator 2 the game, a user by the name of Meshuggah420, and Much loud(before it turned to shit) to thank. Before Meshuggah I was listening to bands like Uncle Kracker, Econoline Crush, Staind, Static-x, etc. I really didn't care about music at all, I saw it as just something to do on a long road trip, or occupy my time when I had nothing else to do. Today music basically runs my life; all my money goes into it, it occupies nearly all my time, and it is almost always in the background of all my daily activities and events; getting dressed in the morning?....music, having a smoke while trying to convince myself I am awake?...music, sitting in class?...music, Walking somewhere?...music, Working?...music, taking a shit?...well you get the point. I have a disease and I hope they never find a cure for it.

I know I like this album, I'm just not sure how much... At times it seems real good and heavy and at other times it seems boring as fuck. And when I say that, I don't mean I hate some parts of it and love others; I mean that I'll listen to one track, like it, then come back later and be bored by it...only to listen to it later and freak over it again. Anyway im butchering any type of review I was hoping to create with this. but bare with me, BTB&M is a damn hard band to review....

Radiohead - In Rainbows

Yes, I know you can download In Rainbows off Radiohead's website for free,or pay for it, if you choose to. Now I know tons of people already know this next bit, for the sake of the odd dude who doesn't ill briefly explain. The band announced on Oct 1 that the album would be available on Oct 10, only by getting it directly through their website. But the thing of note is that you can pay whatever you want for the digital download. (from 0.00 to 100). The only reason i'm putting this on my blog is because their website is pretty lagged up from all the people on it at the moment. Review of Sounds later.

Genesis - The Lamb Lays Down on Broadway

Download Disc 1&2
(Re-upped)

This is the last Genesis album with Peter Gabriel on vocals. Its also where the Genesis I know and love begins to degrade into poppy drivel courtesy of Mr. Collins. "The Lamb Lays down" is a double album (which I find very bothersome) and so in turn takes a lot of determination to listen to all the way through. I don't find it as good as Selling England by the pound, but its still a good listen.

Part 4, chapter 1 of the Coheed & Cambria story. Much more proggy on this album. real good though. if im bored enough today i may just upload their first live DVD too...but we'll see...

Ulver - Teachings In Silence

This album is incredibly emotional and surreal, on an abstract level of course.(this IS ulver were talking about) The songs may be a tad bit too long for some people, but I urge you to hold out and listen to the entire thing, because its well worth it. What I'm giving you here is two EP's crammed into one file; "Silence Teaches You How to Sing" and "Silencing The Singing".
